Michael Calleja, 51 of Kew, Nicola Ciconte, 54, Vincenzo Medici, 45 and Carmelo Loprete, 41, are to be tried next month in Vibo Valentia in Calabria.The Age reported that the four allegedly conspired with the Calabrian mafia to ship up to 500kg of cocaine with an estimated street value of $50 million from South America to Melbourne through Italy between 2002 and 2004.The alleged plot was discovered by the Italian police in an operation code names Operation Decollo thanks to infiltrators of the international drug networkCalleja, Medici and Loprete allegedly made several trips to Italy to work out the details of their shipments.Malta-born Calleja is said to have inspected the drugs and later was recorded telling Ciconte that the furniture was beautiful.Australia refused Italian requests for the extradition of the four men.

Adrian Mosley, 39, and Anissa Mosley, 41, appeared on Thursday in a Beaumont federal courtroom, where they were formally charged with drug possession and intent to distribute cocaine.The case began July 29 when Beaumont police stopped their car for a routine traffic violation. A search of the vehicle netted 28 kilograms of cocaine, officials said.They were arrested Oct. 22 after a federal grand jury indicted them on the drug trafficking charges. A later search of their home in Pearland uncovered a cocaine processing lab, weapons, ledgers used in the drug trafficking and a money counting machine.Investigating the couple are the Drug Enforcement Administration's Galveston office, the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office and the Beaumont Police Department.

sentenced Nicholas Frank "Shonky" Cassidy, 46, and James Scott Parnwell Knight, 41, to two years and six months in jail for assaulting two men in the brawl at the Airport Hotel in December, 2007.

Cassidy and Knight were found guilty by a jury earlier this week.Knight was also found guilty of going armed in public with a claw hammer, and of a breach of a suspended sentence for not answering questions of the Australian Crime Commission.Cassidy was given a non-parole period of 15 months, and Knight was given 20 months.
Justice Riley said the attack "was of a kind which causes disquiet in the community".
Cassidy, Knight and four other men attacked two brothers after Cassidy was knocked out in a fight started over a "fat" joke at Cassidy's expense.
