The Chairman and Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ahmadu Giade has warned Nigerians deported from the United States on drug related offences not to rubbish the image of the country.
He gave the warning when 19 deported drug peddlers that arrived at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) last Thursday were picked up by the Agency and transferred to its headquarters in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The deportees were Elabor Francis, 68; Nwachia Hypolitus, 48; Innocent Omorogie, 35; Omozua Emmanuel Omoruyi, 26; Tommiwa Kolly Jas, 40; Ogunsanwo Ogunniran, 29; Ani Humphrey Chiedozi, 50; Lawal Shamsudeen, 49; Akinsola Rashida Olayinka, 46 and Adebayo Emmanuel, 46. The others were Amadi Okechukwu Mummee, 55; Aduleja Anthony, 53; Ojomu Babatunde, 29; Oyetunji Oyediran, 47; Anyaegbu Chukwubuike, 45; Ezebuike Princewill, 46; Sofunwa Albert Olatunji, 54; Shennaike Adegoke Adebayo, 48 and Oragbon Michael Osai, 43.
"There are Nigerians that have made the country proud in the United States; we will therefore resist any attempt for a select few to indulge in ignoble acts such as drug trafficking," Giade said.
Preliminary investigation report conducted by the NDLEA showed that the deportees had served various jail terms ranging from five months to sixteen years.
Among the deportees, six are from Lagos State while three are from Edo and Imo states respectively. Two are from Ogun State while Anambra, Enugu, Ekiti, Kwara and Oyo states have one each.

Iseimi Erhabor Joseph,Ojeiwa Frank is based in Malaga, Spain

Iseimi Erhabor Joseph, who ingested 80 wraps and Ojeiwa Frank that ingested 66 wraps of substance that tested positive for cocaine.
They were arrested on Saturday at the departure hall during screening of passengers on a KLM flight. Unlike most drug traffickers that indulge in the illicit act for a fee, both suspects were found to have bought the drugs themselves for sale in Europe.
Iseimi Erhabor Joseph, 35, had been based in Chile, Madrid, Spain, for 10 years. He revealed how he invested N2.5 million into the illicit drug business.
Irhabor hails from Ovia Local Government Area of Edo State. Frank, 35, is also based in Malaga, Spain, where he works in a construction company since 2000.
He confessed to have invested N1.8 million into the drug business.

Olayemi Olawunmi Olajumoke

Olayemi Olawunmi Olajumoke, 37 years, was arrested on December 29 at about 2 p.m. during the screening of passengers on Emirate Airline flight to Bombay in India.
According to the public affairs officer of NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju, the cocaine was carefully concealed in the inner lining of a skirt inside her luggage.
Olajumoke, who hails from Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun State, lives at No. 30, Ogundele Street Oke Afa, Isolo, Lagos. She claimed to have been given the drug by one Akin whom she said was introduced to her by a Nigerian she met in India who called to tell her that one Akin will give her a parcel to deliver to him.
“Akin called me at the airport and gave me the clothes inside black polythene bag which I immediately kept in my armpit. I later kept it in my luggage. During search, it was discovered to contain cocaine. I did not know that it contains hard drug,” she said.

Nigeria Arrests

32-year-old Ahukanna Chukwuka Daniel was caught by the law enforcement agents with hard drugs while boarding an Italian bound Alitalia aircraft from the airport.
Also caught was 36-year-old Ike Prince Chris, who attempted to smuggle some drugs to Germany aboard a KLM flight.
Only on last Friday, the anti drug agency, in a statement by its spokesman, Ofoyeju Mitchel said it had arrested one Mwaugo Magnus Emeka for attempting to beat the security point to export some drugs, through Ethiopian airline to Israel.

Nigerian women on drugs charges in UK jails has risen

The number of Nigerian women on drugs charges in UK jails has risen almost sixfold in three years, figures supplied to the BBC News website show.

On 30 June this year, 85 of the 151 Nigerian women in custody in the UK were being held for drugs offences. In 2002 there were just 15 out of 29.
